Safe Gaming System™ Product Offerings (Modules)

The Safe Gaming System Self-administered Gambling Questionnaire

The Safe Gaming System™ currently offers its self-administered gambling questionnaire as one of its modular products. The questionnaire is included in the integrated Safe Gaming System, however, it has value as a stand-alone product as well. Therefore, it is accessible, online through links from sponsors' Web sites and other Internet-enabled facilities (such as kiosks).

The questionnaire is an interactive, user-friendly, Web-based tool that allows gamblers (a) to assess their gambling sub-type (severity of their current gambling behavior); and (b) understand more about their personal correlates (a.k.a. "risk factors") for developing gambling problems.

The questionnaire contains approximately 30 questions that have been chosen based upon selected recent research studies on problem gambling. The results of the research studies has validated that the severity assessment can accurately identify problem gamblers, and that the risk factor items significantly correlate to development of problem gambling behavior.

A high percentage of individuals who are classified as "recovered problem gamblers" resolve their gambling problems on their own with no professional assistance. Unfortunately, in too many cases, this process of natural recovery occurs long after the problem gambler's career and personal life have suffered irreparable damage, often after a significant crisis has developed out of their gambling problem. The questionnaire provides gamblers with valuable information about their current, individual gambling severity and personal risks. It can help identify issues and developing problems before significant damage is done.

The Integrated Safe Gaming System™

The integrated Safe Gaming System™ (SGS) is a comprehensive service designed for individuals who choose to gamble. It recognizes that gambling is a recreational activity that people enjoy, but that safeguards and controls are essential to avoid the issues that excessive gambling spawns. The integrated system includes the features of the self-administered gambling questionnaire, the determination of affordable gambling limits, and many others.

The integrated system provides an effective, personalized means to maintain control while actively gambling. With the expert assistance of SGS, each registrant makes informed decisions about gambling, and commits to comply with personal, affordable limits for gambling, while thinking rationally and clearly, outside any gambling venue.

Each registrant is issued an SGS secure account access device (usually a card), which is exclusively used for gambling at any venue that connects to SGS. A registrant pre-commits and pre-funds a special SGS gambling account only up to the determined affordable limit for gambling - per time period (such as a month.) Time spent gambling is also limited/"budgeted." Once the affordable gambling expenditure limits or time limits are reached for any given period, no further funding is available to gamble until the next budget period.

The Safe Gaming System Module for Determining Affordable Gambling Limits

In the Safe Gaming System process, each registrant has access to a software module that guides one through setting affordable gambling limits, including both time spent and money spent in gambling activities. The limits so derived are not "prescribed" or "arbitrary", rather take into account the individual's personal status and situation. Non-problem gamblers generally treat gambling as a recreational activity. They set time and expenditure limits for the activity, and stick to their limits to avoid disordered gambling and establishing bad habits. Using this SGS module on a stand-alone basis provides assistance to the gambler to firmly establish limits that should be adhered to in order to stay within an "affordable" (non-harmful, recreational) range.
